A comprehensive training program for all personnel who require unescorted access to security restricted areas at an aerodrome, or who are required to attend as per their employer’s security program.

The General Aviation Security Awareness e-Learning is a self-paced course and includes course materials, assessments, instructor guidance and support.

Learners will require a device that can make use of video camera and microphone capabilities. All forms and assessments are completed using online forms. Course materials are available online. Learners will be engaged with a modern intuitive and interactive interface that provides real time assessments and feedback.

Upon competency learners are awarded a CAA Accredited Certificate of Competency. This certificate is valid for a period of 24-months as per SACAA requirements. Refresher courses should be booked 30-days prior to expiration.

Description

The SACAA accredited General Aviation Security Awareness Training course meets the security training requirements under Part 109 for persons managing security at Airports and Air Carriers.

This course will cover concepts such as relevant legislative frameworks, human resources management, management of financial resources, managing the airport and airline security and more.

Learners enrolled in this course will gain a good understanding of security programmes required by international airports and airlines while adopting the roles and attributes of an aviation security manager operating in these circumstances.

This training course is aimed at the following groups:

  • Airport police;
  • Immigration and border police;
  • Airport management and staff;
  • Aircraft operator ground staff;
  • Aircraft operator flight and cabin crew;
  • Regulated agents and known consignors;
  • Mail staff;
  • General aviation (GA) and aerial work (AW) staff;
  • Fuel company managers and supervisors;
  • Protocol and other VIP handling agencies;
  • Customs and agriculture personnel;
  • Airport concessionaires and tenants; and
  • Persons other than passengers requiring unescorted access to security restricted areas and not falling into other groups.

At the end of this course, a student should display the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of previous acts of unlawful interference with civil aviation, terrorist acts and current threats;
  • Awareness of the relevant legal requirements;
  • Knowledge of the objectives and organisation of aviation security, including the obligations and responsibilities of persons implementing security controls;
  • Mitigation methods to Cyber security
  • Human factors and security culture
  • Basic behaviour detection methods
  • Understanding of the configuration of the screening checkpoint and the screening process;
  • Awareness of access control and relevant screening procedures;
  • Knowledge of airport identification cards used at the airport;
  • Knowledge of reporting procedures;
  • Ability to respond appropriately to security related incidents.
  • Be able to deal with bomb threats;
  • Respond appropriately to the discovery of prohibited articles or suspicious items.
  • Learners are awarded SACAA Accredited certificates which is valid for 24-months upon successful completion.
  • This course meets the requirements of DOC-CATS-109 and is approved by the SACAA.
