This course is for the shipper and packer of dangerous goods, the cargo agent, the freight forwarder and operators’ dangerous goods acceptance personnel (Categories1,2,3,and 6 from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Table 1.5.A).

It is designed to be used in conjunction with  the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations to familiarize the student with the various sections and how to apply them.

it is also a SACAA accredited course that meet the training requirements for personnel listed in category 6 as per Table 1.5.A of the IATA DGR.

Description

The Dangerous Goods Category 6 course, which is accredited by the SACAA is designed for the shipper and packer of dangerous goods, the cargo agent, the freight forwarder and operators’ dangerous goods acceptance personnel (Categories1,2,3,and 6 from the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations Table 1.5.A).

The DG Category 6 course is designed to be used in conjunction with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations to familiarize the student with the various sections and how to apply them.

  • Airline cargo acceptance and cargo agency staff
  • Cargo operations and ground handling staff
  • Station managers responsible for the safe transport of dangerous goods
  • Shippers, cargo agents, consolidators, freight forwarders
  • Instructional designers and instructors of DGR

After successful completion of this course, the student will be familiar with the contents of the Dangerous Goods Regulations and will be able to apply the principles found in these regulations. Specifically, the student will be able to:

  • Apply the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations correctly;
  • Apply the legal aspects involved;
  • Differentiate between shipper’s and operator’s responsibilities;
  • Identify dangerous goods which are:
    • Forbidden for air transport;
    • Permitted as cargo under the Regulations;
    • Excepted from the Regulations in all or in part.
  • Identify the nine classes of dangerous goods by their principle criteria;
  • Navigate through the alphabetical List of Dangerous Goods and apply the information
    it contains;
  • Apply the general packing requirements and the specific packing instructions to verify that
    they have been followed;
  • Verify that the use of a packaging complies with the limitations of the specification indicated
    on the package;
  • Properly mark and label a dangerous goods package and/or verify if the marking and labelling requirements have been met;
  • Complete a Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods and/or verify if the information
    provided on the form complies with the Regulations;
  • Properly enter the appropriate information on the Air Waybill and/or verify that the  information was entered correctly [for cargo agents, freight forwarders or operators’ staff only];
  • Recognize and apply the appropriate State and/or operator variations;
  • Accept a shipment correctly by use of an acceptance check list or show how it fails the
    acceptance check list [for cargo agents, freight forwarders or operators’ staff only];
  • Follow general emergency procedures when a damaged or leaking package is
    discovered.
  • Learners are awarded a CAA Accredited certificate of competency which is valid for 24-months upon successful completion.
  • This course meets the training requirements of Part 92 – Conveyance of Dangerous Goods of the South African Civil Aviation Regulations, as well as the ICAO requirements for Dangerous Goods training (CAA/DG/0031).
  • This course is presented by Professional Aviation Services. (CAA/DG/0031).

All Dangerous Goods Regulations Courses presented by Professional Aviation Services  (CAA/DG/0031) are accredited by the SACAA. 

Based on the latest IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, these courses meet the training requirements of Part 92 – Conveyance of Dangerous Goods of the South African Civil Aviation Regulations, as well as the ICAO requirements for Dangerous Goods training.
